Why New Hampshire Drivers Add the HAZMAT Endorsement

The H endorsement unlocks higher-paying loads across New Hampshire — especially for drivers running freight in and out of Manchester, Nashua, and Concord.

+$5K–$15K

Higher Annual Pay

HAZMAT-endorsed drivers typically earn thousands more per year than non-endorsed CDL drivers.

More Loads

Expanded Job Options

Fuel, chemicals, gas cylinders, batteries — HAZMAT opens up freight lanes closed to non-endorsed drivers.

Faster Hiring

Top Priority for Fleets

Carriers in New Hampshire routinely prioritize HAZMAT-endorsed applicants and pay sign-on bonuses to get them.

Under 3 hrs

Minimal Time Commitment

You can finish the FMCSA theory portion before lunch — and keep your current schedule untouched.

The HAZMAT endorsement order in New Hampshire

Every state runs the TSA background check and the hazmat knowledge test, but not in the same order. This is New Hampshire's, from the DMV's own rules.

Pre-register for the TSA fingerprint clearance before you visit the DMV, then take the hazmat knowledge test. The hazmat endorsement cannot ride on a CLP.

Who issues it

New Hampshire Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

Official DMV CDL page ›

Age and permit

Age: 18 for the CLP and an in-state CDL; drivers under 21 carry a K restriction (New Hampshire only). 21 to cross state lines or haul hazmat under federal rules.

Permit hold: 14 days.

Will New Hampshire accept online hazmat theory? Yes, by federal rule. Federal rule 49 CFR 380.703(i) says that state qualification requirements for theory instruction do not apply to providers offering that instruction only online. So your state accepts theory from any provider listed on the FMCSA Training Provider Registry, including ELDT365, and no state can require the online theory portion to come from a state-licensed school. States can add their own rules for the behind-the-wheel part, and several do; those are listed below. 49 CFR 380.703(i)

New Hampshire HAZMAT Endorsement FAQ

Common questions from New Hampshire CDL holders adding the H endorsement.

Is the ELDT365 HAZMAT course accepted in New Hampshire?
Yes. ELDT365 is registered on the FMCSA Training Provider Registry (TPR). Every New Hampshire DMV location accepts completion records submitted through the TPR, and we submit yours automatically the moment you finish.
Do I need a CDL before taking the HAZMAT course in New Hampshire?
You don't need the CDL in hand to start the theory course, but you'll need a valid New Hampshire CDL (Class A or Class B) before the DMV can add the H endorsement to your license. Most drivers take the HAZMAT theory training alongside or right after their CDL training.
How long does the New Hampshire HAZMAT theory course take?
Most New Hampshire drivers finish the HAZMAT theory in one sitting. The course is self-paced — pause and resume anytime on any device.
What happens after I finish the HAZMAT course?
Your completion is auto-uploaded to the FMCSA Training Provider Registry. From there you complete your TSA fingerprint/background check and pass the HAZMAT written test at your local New Hampshire DMV office. You don't need to bring a paper certificate — the DMV pulls your training record from the federal registry.
How much does the New Hampshire HAZMAT endorsement cost in total?
ELDT365 covers the FMCSA-required theory training for $20. You'll also pay a TSA background check fee (paid directly to TSA) and whatever New Hampshire DMV charges for adding an endorsement to a CDL. Those two fees vary and go directly to the TSA and NH state — not to us.
Can I take the New Hampshire HAZMAT course on my phone?
Yes. ELDT365 is fully mobile-friendly. Many New Hampshire drivers complete the HAZMAT course on their phone during breaks, layovers, or at home.
How much more will I earn with a HAZMAT endorsement in New Hampshire?
Most HAZMAT-endorsed drivers earn an extra $5,000–$15,000 per year compared to non-endorsed CDL drivers — with fuel, chemical, and industrial freight lanes running through Manchester, Nashua, and Concord being common HAZMAT routes in New Hampshire. Actual earnings depend on the carrier, the freight, and your experience level.
