Do I need P as well?
Yes - school bus drivers need both the P and S endorsements. Take Passenger first if you do not have it.
Does this include state-specific training?
This is the federal ELDT portion. Some states and districts add their own classroom or behind-the-wheel hours on top.
Do I need the P endorsement first?
Yes. School bus requires the passenger endorsement. Many drivers test for both in the same visit.
Who does the behind-the-wheel?
Almost always the school district or its bus contractor, on their buses, at no cost to you.
Is there a background check?
Yes, every state runs a criminal background check and fingerprinting for school bus drivers. Start it early; it can take weeks.
