How to get a Doubles/Triples endorsement
Step 1: Hold a Class A
The T endorsement only goes on a Class A CDL. If you are still working on your Class A, do that first; you can add T on the same visit you get the license in most states.
Step 2: Learn the material
The test is drawn from the doubles and triples section of the CDL manual. The parts that trip people up are the coupling order with a converter dolly, which shut-off valves are open and closed, how you prove air reached the last trailer, and never unlocking the pintle hook with the dolly under the trailer. The ELDT365 course teaches each of those as a short lesson followed by the practice questions.
Step 3: Pass the knowledge test
Typically 20 questions, 80 percent to pass. Bring your CDL. Pass, pay the fee (usually $5 to $30), and the T is printed on your license.
Step 4: Learn to actually pull them
The endorsement is the paper. Real doubles skill comes from your carrier: most LTL companies run their own doubles training and yard time before they turn you loose on linehaul.
