Arizona certifies school bus drivers through the DPS Student Transportation Unit: at least 14 classroom hours and 20 behind-the-wheel hours in a school bus, a physical performance test, and a 6.5-hour refresher every 24 months, under A.A.C. R13-13-102. ELDT365 handles the separate federal theory for $20 per course.
Under A.A.C. R13-13-102, delivered by the employer with DPS-certified instructors. DPS gets seven days' notice before a class.
Required for certification and every refresher cycle.
Tracked by the employer; DPS certifies.
The employer, using DPS-certified instructors. Larger districts and contractors keep instructors on staff; smaller ones share.
Federal theory for B, P and S, done before your 14-hour classroom block, filed the same day. The 20 BTW hours in a school bus normally serve as the federal BTW record if the employer is on the registry.
Card on file or PO, W-9 and per-driver receipts provided.
Notify DPS seven days before your class date, as the rule requires.
Class B, Passenger and School Bus on ELDT365 before the 14-hour classroom block. Filed the same day.
Delivered by the employer under A.A.C. R13-13-102.
These are the federal BTW record if the employer is on the registry. Then the physical performance test.
Refresher is 6.5 classroom hours plus the PPT every 24 months.
Class B, Passenger and School Bus are $20 each per driver. A driver who needs all three is $60; a Class B holder adding the two endorsements is $40. Arizona fleets can put a card on file and be billed as they enroll, or prepay seats on a PO with a W-9 and a quote. No minimum and no contract. The federal explainer, pricing comparison and who-this-is-for detail are on the bus driver overview.
Arizona's 14 classroom and 20 behind-the-wheel hours under R13-13-102 satisfies Arizona. It does not satisfy FMCSA. A driver getting a Class B, Passenger or School Bus endorsement for the first time since February 7, 2022 also needs a federal ELDT record from a provider on the Training Provider Registry before the AZ skills test. The two records live in two different systems: the state training with the Arizona DPS Student Transportation Unit, the ELDT with FMCSA.

6.5 classroom hours plus the physical performance test every 24 months, per R13-13-102. ELDT has no refresher.
That week is the natural window. Enroll the cohort in Class B, Passenger and School Bus on ELDT365 the day you send DPS the notice, and every driver's federal record is filed before the 14 classroom hours begin.
They can, if the employer is listed on the FMCSA registry as a BTW provider and files each driver's record. Arizona's 20 hours far exceed the federal minimum, which is zero. The DPS-certified instructor typically meets the federal BTW instructor definition.
Moves to us: the federal theory for Class B, Passenger and School Bus, and the FMCSA filing. Stays with you: Arizona's 14 classroom and 20 behind-the-wheel hours under R13-13-102, behind-the-wheel, the physical, drug testing and background checks. Nothing about your Arizona certificate changes.
Free school account, $20 per course per driver, filed to the FMCSA registry the same day. Arizona's 14 classroom and 20 behind-the-wheel hours under R13-13-102 stays exactly where it is.
